Detailed Itinerary

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, your family will be warmly greeted by our guide and transferred to the hotel.

After check-in, enjoy some free time to relax and recover from your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short walk around the city.

Terelj National Park – Chinggis Khaan Statue, Turtle Rock & Aryabal Temple

After breakfast, we will drive to Terelj National Park, one of Mongolia’s most beautiful natural destinations. Our first stop will be the impressive Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, where you can admire the enormous equestrian statue and enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck.

We will then explore Turtle Rock, one of the park’s most famous natural formations. Afterward, we will take a gentle hike to the peaceful Aryabal Meditation Temple, surrounded by forested mountains and beautiful scenery. The day offers plenty of opportunities for family photos and enjoying Mongolia’s spectacular nature.

Bayan Gobi Sand Dunes & Camel Riding

Today, we will travel to Bayan Gobi, a fascinating landscape where golden sand dunes meet the open Mongolian steppe. Upon arrival, the family can explore the dunes and enjoy an exciting camel-riding experience. Riding through the sandy landscape is a memorable experience for both children and adults. There will also be time to walk among the dunes, take photographs, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Orkhon Valley, Horse Riding & Yak-Breeding Family

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to the beautiful Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, the family will enjoy a horse-riding experience through the open steppe and along the Orkhon River, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the Mongolian countryside. We will also visit a local yak-breeding family, where you can meet the family, see their animals, learn about their traditional lifestyle, and taste freshly made Mongolian dairy products.

Karakorum & Erdene Zuu Buddhist Monastery

Today, we will explore Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire founded by Chinggis Khaan. We will visit the Karakorum Museum to learn about Mongolia’s fascinating history before continuing to Erdene Zuu Buddhist Monastery, one of Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery complexes. The family can explore the historic monastery, admire its traditional architecture, and learn about Mongolia’s Buddhist heritage.

Return to Ulaanbaatar & Mongolian Folklore Show

After breakfast, we will begin our journey back to Ulaanbaatar, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Mongolian countryside along the way. Upon arrival in the capital, we will attend an entertaining Mongolian folklore performance featuring traditional music, singing, dancing, contortion, and throat singing. After the show, we will transfer to the hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Ulaanbaatar City Tour

Today, we will explore the cultural and historical highlights of Ulaanbaatar. We will visit Sukhbaatar Square, the central landmark of the capital, followed by Gandan Monastery, Mongolia’s largest and most important Buddhist monastery. We will then visit the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, where the family can discover Mongolia’s rich history and learn more about the Mongol Empire and the legacy of Chinggis Khaan.

Mongol Nomadic Camp Experience

Today, we will visit a Mongol Nomadic camp to experience traditional Mongolian family life and nomadic culture. The family can participate in traditional activities, meet local people, see livestock, and learn about the daily life of Mongolian nomads. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience a lifestyle very different from their own. After the experience, we will return to Ulaanbaatar and enjoy a relaxing evening.

What kind of accommodation for this trip?

You will stay in a good 4-star hotel in Ulaanbaatar. An upgrade is possible on request!

During the excursion in the countryside, you will stay in a Tourist Ger camp, which is a kind of hotel that serves customers with a ger (yurt) instead of a hotel room and is always located at the best viewing spot. It is the most popular accommodation type for a countryside trip in Mongolia and consists of 30–40 yurts, a restaurant and facilities. Most visitors are happy to stay in a ger, which provides an authentic taste of Mongolian culture and adventure, their most enjoyable experience in Mongolia.

What about the meals?

During your trip in Mongolia, you will be served mainly European dishes and sometimes authentic Mongolian foods. Lunch and dinner consist of 3–4 courses (soup and/or salad, main course, dessert) and bottled water.

If you require special meals due to religious or medical limitations, or vegetarian food, please inform us so that arrangements can be made in advance.

What about the transport and road conditions for this trip?

Car: A good car is an important part of your comfortable trip in Mongolia. There will be a good 4×4 car for this trip based on the number of people in your group.

Road: The asphalted roads are 40% and the unpaved roads are 60%.

During the trip, it takes approximately 2–6 hours of driving (80–280 km) from one destination to the next, depending on road and weather conditions on each driving day. This is not a nonstop drive! We can take frequent short stops along the road for photographs, toilets, stretching and meeting local nomads.

The best time to do this journey?

1st best months: June, July and August.

2nd best months: May and September.

Personal things you should bring with you

Hiking boots and sandals, waterproof jacket, raincoat, umbrella, sunglasses, hat, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen and prescription medication (if required).

Gear: Camera, binoculars, flashlight and travel lamp. Some Tourist camps do not have 24-hour electricity. It is therefore recommended to bring your own travel lamp!
