01Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Welcome to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, meet your Steppe Elite Travel guide and transfer to your hotel. After lunch, visit Sukhbaatar Square, the heart of the capital, followed by the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, where you will discover Mongolia’s history and the legacy of Chinggis Khaan.

02Chinggis Khaan Statue – Aryabal Temple – Turtle Rock
Drive to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, famous for its forested mountains, granite formations, and beautiful valleys. Visit the impressive Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex, then continue to Turtle Rock and Aryabal Meditation Temple. Enjoy opportunities for hiking and horseback riding amid the spectacular scenery.

03Flight to Dalanzadgad – Yol Valley
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Dalanzadgad, the capital of South Gobi Province. Continue to Yol Valley in Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, where you will enjoy a scenic hike through dramatic cliffs, streams, and desert landscapes. Keep an eye out for birds of prey and, with some luck, Siberian ibex and wild sheep.

04Khongor Sand Dunes & Camel Experience
Travel deeper into the Gobi to the magnificent Khongor Sand Dunes. Visit a local camel-breeding family, learn about their nomadic lifestyle, and enjoy an optional camel ride. Later, climb the famous “Singing Dunes” and admire panoramic views and a spectacular Gobi sunset.

05Bayanzag – Flaming Cliffs
Explore Bayanzag, the famous Flaming Cliffs, renowned for its dramatic red sandstone formations and important dinosaur discoveries. Visit the local museum and learn about the expeditions of Roy Chapman Andrews, then explore the cliffs and surrounding saxaul forest on foot.

06Dalanzadgad – Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, drive to Dalanzadgad and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the local museum to learn about the history, culture, and natural heritage of the Gobi, followed by some free time to explore the city or enjoy a coffee before your flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

07Orkhon Valley & Orkhon Waterfall
Travel to the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important center of Mongolia’s nomadic heritage. Hike to the spectacular Orkhon Waterfall and enjoy the scenery along the Orkhon River. Later, visit a yak-breeding family, taste traditional dairy products, and experience authentic Mongolian hospitality.

08Karakorum & Erdene Zuu Monastery
Travel to Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. Visit the Karakorum Museum to learn about the city’s history, followed by Erdene Zuu Buddhist Monastery, one of Mongolia’s oldest surviving Buddhist monastery complexes. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and discover Mongolia’s rich Buddhist heritage.

09Small Gobi – Ulaanbaatar & Mongolian Folklore Show
Begin your journey back to Ulaanbaatar, stopping at the Small Gobi near Burd soum to enjoy its sand dunes and surrounding steppe. After lunch, continue to the capital and attend a Mongolian Folklore Show featuring traditional music, dancing, contortion, and throat singing (khoomei). Transfer to your hotel after the performance.

Enjoy a free morning at your hotel or explore Ulaanbaatar independently, depending on your flight schedule. Later, transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport for your departure flight.

What kind of accommodation for this trip?
You will stay in a good 4-star hotel in Ulaanbaatar. An upgrade is possible on request!
During the excursion in the countryside, you will stay in a Tourist Ger camp, which is a kind of hotel that serves customers with a ger (yurt) instead of a hotel room and is always located at the best viewing spot. It is the most popular accommodation type for a countryside trip in Mongolia and consists of 30–40 yurts, a restaurant and facilities. Most visitors are happy to stay in a ger, which provides an authentic taste of Mongolian culture and adventure, their most enjoyable experience in Mongolia.
What about the meals?
During your trip in Mongolia, you will be served mainly European dishes and sometimes authentic Mongolian foods. Lunch and dinner consist of 3–4 courses (soup and/or salad, main course, dessert) and bottled water.
If you require special meals due to religious or medical limitations, or vegetarian food, please inform us so that arrangements can be made in advance.
What about the transport and road conditions for this trip?
Car: A good car is an important part of your comfortable trip in Mongolia. There will be a good 4×4 car for this trip based on the number of people in your group.
Road: The asphalted roads are 40% and the unpaved roads are 60%.
During the trip, it takes approximately 2–6 hours of driving (80–280 km) from one destination to the next, depending on road and weather conditions on each driving day. This is not a nonstop drive! We can take frequent short stops along the road for photographs, toilets, stretching and meeting local nomads.
The best time to do this journey?
1st best months: June, July and August.
2nd best months: May and September.
Personal things you should bring with you
Hiking boots and sandals, waterproof jacket, raincoat, umbrella, sunglasses, hat, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen and prescription medication (if required).
Gear: Camera, binoculars, flashlight and travel lamp. Some Tourist camps do not have 24-hour electricity. It is therefore recommended to bring your own travel lamp!
